Do you recognize the scene above? It’s in James Bay at the end of Menzies Street by Dallas Road. The fountain has a plaque with a quote from Baba Hari Dass. “The more we live in harmony with nature, the more peace we attain.”  A simple and powerful message. Seasons change, storms come and go, we age, and none of this we can do much about. We can, however, cultivate an attitude of self-compassion and acceptance of what we cannot change.
In Ayurvedic terms, this is Vata season moving into Kapha, which means wind,  fluctuating and cooler temperatures as well as dampness. All these factors have effects on our internal climate. Some general recommendations to be in harmony with this season are: warming foods such as soups with heating spices, gentle exercise and warm oil massage, especially of the feet.

Heating spices: cardamom, ginger, clove, pepper, mustard seed, cumin, cinnamon, nutmeg
Gentle exercise: yoga classes are ideal. Go here for details on November yoga for scoliosis classes and private sessions.
Foot massage: It is helpful in the evenings for calming the mind and supporting a restful sleep. Light sesame oil is often used at this time for most people. In my book Scoliosis Undone I share details of how to do a warm oil foot massage. Of course you can warm some oil and create your own massage routine as well.
