What happens in private yoga sessions?

A private yoga session is a gift you give to yourself. My role is to facilitate by listening to your current needs and challenges. Together we go over posture, some health history and then we co-create a home practice. This typically includes a mixture of breathing practices, strengthening active postures and resting postures. Mindfulness or meditation instruction supports the active practices.  For people with scoliosis, education around how to work with the individual curve pattern during yoga practice and during everyday activities is included. We can explore creating an active morning practice and/or a gentle evening practice to wind down at the end of the day. This time is designed for you to explore how movement and rest can be applied to your current particular situation.

**Private sessions are best in a series, as I take a thorough and detailed approach. This involves slowing down and focusing on the breath in the body which allows for energy to move more freely. Below is an outline of the three appointment series.

The first session is mainly devoted to posture assessment, health history, exploring your curve pattern and goals. We will cover some use of props for scoliosis and the therapeutic approach. We also spend some time with mindful breathwork and breathwork for scoliosis. There may be time to go over a few components of a home asana practice, whether that’s creating a new one or adding to an existing one.

The second session will build on the first one, answer your questions and expand on the home practice from the first session. Your experience and your aims for practice inform the direction we take. This appointment takes place approximately 10 days to two weeks after the first session.

The third session is to finetune the practice, answer your questions, check alignment and next steps. We revisit the breath and note any changes.

After the initial three sessions, I find that monthly or bi-monthly check-ins are useful to answer questions, go over alignment and props, find different variations of the poses to work with if needed and/or alter the practice for seasonal shifts.
Optional accountability and ongoing support tools are available for those who are ready to commit to a consistent practice (understanding that this waxes and wanes over time). To book, check the calendar for days and time that work for you.
